Probably because those programs represent quite a few jobs and it's an election year - the C-17 program employs 30,000 people in 4 states.

The whole article just pisses me off. I can understand politicians defending a program that means lots of jobs for their district, but they seem to have no concept of finances and reality whatsoever. I can see shutting down a project and losing your district jobs being an election issue, but a .05% difference in a pay increase or trying to be fiscally responsible doesn't make for quite as good of mud slinging. :bang:

Read the whole thing, pretty sad. 500 billion a year, and dems in Congress are refusing to let Gates cuts wasteful programs. :bang::bang:

Perhaps you need to slow down on your Faux News marathons....I think that it has provided you with "dems" tourettes. ;-)

From the article:

Lawmakers from both parties are poised to override Gates and fund the C-17 cargo plane and an alternative engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter -- two weapons systems the defense secretary has been trying to cut from next year's budget

Read more than the first paragraph.

Perhaps this line? Seems to be bi-partisan?

Despite Gates's talk of vetoes, two House subcommittees last week approved $485 million for the second engine next year.

If not, perhaps you could highlight the section stating that it is the "dems"....

"House Republicans lead charge in bi-partisan unity of House Armed Services Committee mark-up and approval of H.R. 5013 in defiance of Gates' threats.....:D

Thanks to both of you for demonstrating why we can't get anything done.

At the end of the day, politricks and blame continue to overshadow the issue - which is that OUR government is spending like a drunken sailor.

Feel free to choose from Mama Scooterbug's fave responses to that:

"So then you be the bigger person and end it!"

"I don't care who started it, I'm ending it."

"And what did you do to him first?"

"How badly do you want to continue this argument?"

And of course:
"Would like some cheese with that w[h]ine?"
