Finally got to read this all in pieces and finished today.
Sounds like you two took Europe by surprise.
I did something similar with my sister when she lived in Holland, but it was summer, and there's nothing like the smell of cow Sheeit while traveling on the Autobahn.

i just got around to reading this - what an adventure ! i'm with beachrunner tho - i could never do without my "stuff". there are just certain essentials i must have....like showers !;-)
