Sounds like some folks want to rant or rave about Corporations, so give it a whirl. My brief thought is not so much what others do, but what I would do if I owned a substantial size corporation. I would choose a very limited number of charities to support, charities in which I believe. On occasion, during special circumstances, I may break my own guidelines and donate to those touching my heart.

The truth is, not everyone who shops with me may agree with my philosophy(business or personal) and charity work, but it is charity, going above that which is required. If someone is against any charity which I choose, he/she can inform me, or shop elsewhere.

I imagine it would be difficult for me to patronize a store that I agreed 100% with that business' philosophy, charity choices, etc. Not much different than trying to find a president with whom I agree 100%. In the meantime, I still need things so I will continue to shop and buy. :D

If I owned a sizeable corporation, I would sell it and move to SoWal. :D

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or
processed, or... process anything sold, bought or processed, or
repair anything sold, bought or processed, you know, as a career
I don't want to do that.

Hmmm - you could maybe charge for producing CO2 - wait a minute, that would be "processed air" - scratch that - how about heat? (whoops, by-product of metabolically processed food). I'm stumped :dunno:

I knew the quote! Love that movie.

The thing is, for corporations, the bottom line is indeed making a profit. I do not think that all corporations are quite as evil as Noam Chomsky or Michael Moore would have them, nor do I think we should let corporations merrily go their way--they bear watching.

Corporate structure is very efficient at doing what it needs to do, and this does not necessarily take 'the greater good' into consideration. But I have seen some very socially responsible deeds done by corporations.

One of the best lines ever in a movie.

I used to own a business that was incorporated but I was the only charity it could afford to contribute to.

I'm not sure why this country is so charity driven anyway...just for conversation sake; Shouldn't the government and our tax dollars take care of the sick, the environment and the poor etc?

Maybe the government could stop subsidizing corps and use that money so that corps would not need to give to charity.

I think we are so driven to chartiy because it fullfills a need in us. It's hard to stand by and do nothing -- so we give. And by giving it has allowed us to "help", to be involved in a "solution" to a problem that we can't fix by ourselves.
