Where Free Speech Is Allowed
Alright folks I'll get right to it. The last thing on the agenda pissed me off more than any thing. An engineering firm came before the commissioners with plans for a concrete plant. You guessed it right where they tried to put the asphalt plant a few years ago. Some genius contractor tried to squeeze by with a 5 story house. Scott Brandon and Kenneth Pridgen were no shows and the 3 other commissioners voted for the hiring of the new Health Dept. director. That would be my favorite right there. Once again when nobody attends these people not the commissioners try a fast one on us. hey talked about adopting the same height ordinance as Grayton beach for the pt. Washington area. Yea!!!! And If I left anything out SJ feel free to correct me or edit because he was sitting right next to me. So everyone in the Pt. Washington area be there for the meeting on the 10 of June.

Do you see a consistency in who is a "no show" to use your words?

Talk about a pattern he developed and it is NOT a good one!

Yes it was an interesting meeting. Based on your comments I now know who both of you are by sight, not just by Avitar. I was sitting one row in front.

Your comments to the Commissioner were right on point.

I now know why they call him SJ.

As much as I like to pick on elected officials, Commissioners Pridgen and Brannon were indeed no-shows today, but Comm. Brannon's Assistant was in audience, taking notes. These two Commissioners are usually at the BCC meetings.

The proposed concrete plant is slated to be on the water in Pt Washington, according to Commissioner Commander. She is very concerned that the vocal Pt Washington people were lacking in attendance and thought that they might not be aware of the plans for the concrete plant, so the commissioners tabled the discussion until the next meeting in South Walton, on June 10, so that the residents of Pt Washington and concerned citizens could have a chance to be properly notified. I hear that concrete plants are very harmful to the environment, but couldn't tell you one reason why off the top of my head. I'll be doing a little research on the subject. If you have any concerns of a concrete plant going into Pt Washington, I'd recommend emailing your County Commissioners with those concerns, or showing up in person to voice your opinion at the June 10 BCC meeting in SoWal at the Courthouse Annex. The County Commissioners were kind enough to reschedule this item for the next SoWal meeting rather than Defuniak, so it is obvious that they want to be sure to hear your concerns or objections before allowing such plant to be approved.

After the lawsuit, which we lost, over the asphalt plant, do the commissioners have much of a choice if this thing meets all the regulations that pertain to that parcel? The last time we ended up writing a check, but I never did understand why the guy did not go ahead and build the plant.

These posts make me want my husband to get a new job even worse than I already do. He works nights so I have to pick and choose which nightly meetings I can attend, very carefully....
A 5 story house?!?

ckhagen, you can always check out the agendas online, prior to the meeting, and email the Commissioners with any thoughts or concerns. It isn't quite the same as being at the meetings, but it is a way to get involved. You may also read in hindsight, the Official Minutes online, once approved, and you can view the meetings, again in hindsight, online at www.waltondemocrats.org/?q=media
