Polio was virtually eradicated, and I think if people had been more cooperative from the start, the same would have been true of COVID. Both diseases present mild or asymptomatic symptoms in the majority of cases by the way. It's a bad bet to bank on the benefits of catching mild variant in hopes of creating widespread immunity. If proper steps are taken, the rate of mutation will approach zero. The laws of nature are descriptive, not prescriptive. There is no decree, invisible hand, or supernatural force that demands that a virus mutate into a a variant that is vaccine resistant. The best bet is not to catch COVID, and if you do catch it, not to spread it.
