I'm sure you're talking about whitetail deer, you won't find any mule deer in Florida or the surrounding states.

Correct you are, only White Tail Deer are found in Florida. The Mule Deer are found out west.

The Mule Deer have big ears like a Mule - very noticable. There are other differences too, like the way they move. Mule Deer bounce instead of running like White Tail Deer, blah, blah, blah.

Sorry about that. It's just that the deer down here are so tiny it's weird to think they're the same species you find up north.

I know what you mean - the difference between the white-tail deer size in Illinois, where we grew up, and in Florida in the 80s was noticeable. There may not be as much difference today since the deer population in IL through the years has increased a lot. If there is more competition for food, that could keep size smaller than several years back. (At least that is what I am assuming.)

Years ago, we didn't see the coyotes in IL, but they followed the deer and are common now. When we've visited at my mom's, we've been waken by their "crying/howling" in the wee morning hours.
