It's not the safest place in the world scooter, years of communist rule have taken a toll on the public. Walking the streets of Cuba isn't an option until they reach some reasonable level of prosperity. That'll largely be dependant to how radical Raul is in his reforms.

no, we should start another war of liberation so those folks can be free and poor. they should all pay for their health care and make a dollar an hour. they will be happy to work for a u.s. corporation that fired a person in indiana to offshore our form of wage slavery.

I know two Cubans (living in America) who have their land deeds from the 50's. They can hardly wait for communism to fall so they can reclaim their land rights!

Will be tough, indeed! Sad for those families!

Costa Rica and Panama. (Dang that was an easy one) Modern day Chile if you go further south. (for all that Pinochet was whack, he hired good economists and listened to them) While they don't have the affluence of the US or Western Europe, they're all pleasant middle class countries by global standards.

Costa Rica, yes - haven't been to Panama, but will get there this year. The cool thing about Costa Rica is: there is nothing Third World about. They enjoy a 93% literacy rate, friendly people and control, yes deliberately control growth! It's a great place! One of my favs. ;-)

costa rica edges out mexico in income and panama edges out the dominican republic.......
