It was once owned by the Carnegie family as their southern coastal getaway. Several incredible homes were built there, but the servants are thought to have burned one to the ground while the Carnegie's were away. One of the Carnegie girls wanted to get married there, so the house was rebuilt specifically for the wedding, then it burned again. Now, only the remains of that house can be seen. There are a couple of cool people who live on the island year round, but most work for the Fed Gov't. Most of the Island is a National Seashore.

Awesome trees :D , skeery spiders!
The spiders are nothing really, I had my fill earlier in life. The skeery thing on that island are the Deer Ticks, and they are all over the place. One day while sitting around my tent for a couple of hours, I found 23 (yes, I still remember, even though that was years ago) Deer Ticks crawling on me. Deer Ticks are the tiny ones, about the size of a sesame seed, and you can really only notice them by feeling slight movement on your body. If you feel a hair blow in the wind, you better check to make sure it isn't a tick.
