I never got the impression we were "free". I've always felt I was a prisoner of my impulses and the events in my mind were almost entirely caused by outside stimuli. The best we can hope for is to channel these stimuli in a way that the "cell" that is being built in our brains for us to reside in, is comfortable and somewhat amusing. Was that too heavy? My impulse is heading towards beer.

The decision to go for the beer was determined by the electrochemical processes in the brain and was not "your" choice. Truth be told, there really is no "you", just a physical body and a bunch of thoughts, memories and sensations in consciousness resulting from the electrochemical processes. The brain decides to go for the beer, and consciousness becomes aware of the decision. Thoughts, memories and sensations become pleasant, even more so after "you" start drinking. It's all good.

Since Mr. Banned asserted there is no "me", how the heck am "I" going to put the beer down?
