Ugh,

Let me get this straight -the past 6 years of the Bush Administration have been a tour de force of conservative ideas put into practice on foreign policy issues, the economy etc. -and we see the state of affairs.

Not a resounding success.

And so conservatives are responding how? Blame the hippies?

You have got to be joking. The conservatives are actually getting more conservative in the face of their failures. Brilliant.

i don't think she believes she needs to preface anything. her response below. she really believes this stuff. jdarg, are you familiar with her work?

No, don't know her. Only regularly read the Lexington paper when I lived there in college and right after- sounds like Lexington suits her a bit more than California!:rotfl:

Lexington is a weird place- the "hippies" are considered the University crowd for the most part. I think Bdarg mentioned that the writer was a poli sci professor at UK, so maybe they hired her for balance?

Opposite the hippies you have a very tiny but very powerful group of wealthy conservatives (Old Lexington money- they still have a Social Register), and the huge group in the middle, the "social climbers", that wish to be like the old money horse crowd and tend to emulate everything they do, including voting for conservative candidates and issues. I imagine Mcbrearty's views are popular with the paper's reader base.
