I don't take it to the extreme of a college roommate from Texas who couldn't open a door or lift something if there was a man within 50', but sure do enjoy a man w/ manners!
I once worked at a camp as the head of landscaping, and one of my counterparts in the maintenance department would drop everything he was doing to carry stuff for me. I had to sit him down and tell him that I didn't want to thwart his wonderful manners, but that both of us had job responsibilities that we had to perform. As a compromise I allowed him to open every door we saw if it didn't pull him away from his work, and he could even get my chair for me at meals.
Chivalry is not dead, I suppose. It's just confused.
