:December birthdays
Mine is Dec 27th. One year my mom didn't want to bake me a birthday cake because we hadn't finished all the fruit cake from Christmas. I was 15 and made my own cake that year. Now baking cakes is my favorite hobby.

It never seemed to be a drag for male spawn. He loved toys so much! I did cut back for a while and celebrated his half b-day in June....especially when he was younger. I think a pre-Christmas B-day is SO much better! One of the hardest things is reminding relatives not to FORGET or not to wrap B-day presents in Christmas paper!!!
Oh, yeah, it's not so much that HE thinks it's a drag--he still has a great time, it's just that the day feels almost like a tag-on to Christmas, know what I mean? And last year he wanted some hard-to-get toys that he ended up not getting, and he told someone about that recently--"My birthday is right after Christmas, so people need to buy me my presents early because after Christmas there's nothing left!" Ouch.
And that's what I was wondering about--if you had tried the half birthday or whatever and how they worked out.

Mine is December 22. People always say, "Well, I guess you don't get any birthday gifts with a birthday that close to Christmas." Actually I probably get more gifts than the rest of the family because it's close to Christmas. While buying Christmas gifts, they always remember to buy me a birthday gift since it's convenient and they're in shopping mode.
Mine's the 15th, and it never got lost in the shuffle of Christmas; I never really even gave it a second thought, actually. I think that's the key, though, like Sueshore was saying--seems somehow easier to celebrate the two events separately when the birthday falls before Christmas.

The 22nd is my daughter's birthday. We always to keep it from getting lost in the Christmas rush. So far, we have succeeded.
Yep, I'm seeing a pattern here--it's the after-Christmas kids who get the shaft!

Last year we had the "friends party" in November! It was the first time we did that and we really liked it. There's so much going on with school programs, church programs, holiday parties etc. Of course we still celebrated on her birthday but it was just family. I better get on the ball if we are going to do that again this year.
You're motivating me! Maybe we'll try the early birthday this year for the first time!

Well, I'm glad something good came out of it, cause that just makes me plain sad!
