I just received a letter from a developer who got caught in the econmic down turn who has given us notice that the vacate lots that were to be developed as single family homes will be turned into a trailer park. As a new resident of the 30-A area, I moved here from the Laguna Beach area of Panama City Beach to get away from 20 people living in a trailer and manufacturing drugs. Anyone residing near a parcel of land in which the developer went belly up, watch out... the development may be turned into a trailer park in an effort to generate revenue.

Actually saw a car and 2 guys in the driveway today and wondered what they were doing there. Wouldn't they need different zoning for such a use which I couldn't see being profitable use of the property.

it would probably be more profitable for a lot owner to be able to rent the property to a local realtor rather than just paying on the lot.

Considering that I can think of at least one of that kind of development that used to be a trailer park not too long ago (Lake Forest) there's a certain kind of symmetry to it.

On the bright side, there are fairly tight rules about what kind of wind rating a manufactured home that would be placed within 1500 feet of the coast needs to have, so anything pre-Andrew (ie. what you typically see in PCB) couldn't be moved into an area.

I have no problem with trailer parks as it's diversity. I'm not exactly a conformist and think that developments that tell you what color to paint your house and the brand of paint you can use is just ridiculous. But, many people like that homogenous appearance......just doesn't work for me. When I bought my cottage, I could have walked away because at the end of the street were these broken down trailers, all with lean-to's going on and nasty looking. Developer bought the land and hauled off the trailers........one house got built and is just sitting there vacant -it's a different kind of 'eyesore.'
