Press Release

Mobile, AL - (October 11th, 2012)

Delta Reign, "swinging bluegrass" band from the Alabama Gulf Coast, to perform in concert at The Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 as part of a CD release tour.

Show at 6 pm until 8 pm
Location: The Events Plaza at The Village of Baytowne Wharf

This is a free show and open to the public.

Newly signed Mountain Fever Records artists, Delta Reign, will perform in concert at The Village of Baytowne Wharf for the Wednesday night concert series as part of their CD Release tour for "Calm Before The Storm". From the Mobile River delta region of Alabama's gulf coast, Delta Reign was formed in the fall of 2004 by founding members Pat and Benita Murphy.
"Delta Reign brings together the musical influences of each of our members; bluegrass, western swing, blues and jazz" stated Benita. "We like to call it Delta Bluegrass or Swinging Bluegrass".

With members, George Mason on fiddle and Joshua Faul on upright bass, the band has found just the right chemistry to solidify Delta Reign's "fresh" approach to bluegrass. Mason, a Harrison, Arkansas native, has had a successful career as a professional musician, performing around the world with such acts as Bobby Vinton, the Glenn Miller orchestra, Patti Page, Tommy Overstreet, the Gatlin Brothers, as well as being bandleader, musical director/arranger for the Osmonds for 6 years. After deciding to come off the road, Mason settled with his family in Gulfport, MS and joined Delta Reign in April 2010. Getting involved with a bluegrass group, he said, was “about getting back to my roots.” “It’s honest music. And I think that’s one of the things the industry is missing these days,” he said. “What’s good about this is that it’s real,” he said. “It’s real music for real people.” Joshua Faul on upright bass, a Gulfport native who has been proficient with electric bass in many genre's, was introduced to bluegrass and upright bass by the Murphy's. He fell in love with the music and also joined Delta Reign in 2010. Learn more about the band at DeltaReign.comDelta Reign first caught the attention of Mountain Fever Records executive Mark Hodges at the International Bluegrass Music Association's 2011 conference in Nashville.
"I felt the sound Delta Reign had was just so different from what I was hearing elsewhere," stated Hodges. "They have this unique way of blending western swing with bluegrass that just floored me and so we began talking about the future of the band and what they were hoping to accomplish." Those conversations led to Hodges signing Delta Reign to the Mountain Fever Records label and putting them into the studio almost immediately.
John Lawless of "Bluegrass Today" offered liner notes for the project and summed up Delta Reign perfectly:"So we come to the question: what happens when you combine swing-style, sock rhythm guitar with three finger banjo in a four piece bluegrass ensemble? This is what Delta Reign is her to answer, and they do it with a breadth of experience and ability in a wide range of sets and sub-sets... To my ear, the mix of Earl Scruggs banjo licks with Texas -style guitar is irresistible. It invariably makes me smile"

The end result is a finely crafted project titled "Calm Before The Storm", that offers listeners a virtual ride through the musical countryside of Alabama's Mobile River delta region of the Gulf Coast. The new album was released on October 9th. The CD Release Concert at the Baytowne Wharf Events Plaza will feature songs from the new CD "Calm Before The Storm" as well as other Delta Reign favorites. CD's will be available for purchase.
