I'm annoyed with the Delta pilots for sacrificing the company and the economy of the City of Atlanta. Granted, I'd be major ticked off if my employer messed with my benefits and retirement packages. But, because they have so much time off, every Delta pilot I know has a side business that brings in at least a quarter of a million dollars a year in addition to their Delta salary.

I just hope Delta doesn't go under for personal reasons. My brother didn't graduate from college - he never liked school. There's no way he could find another job that pays as well as Delta pays, and that's after two pay cuts. Actually that's part of Delta's problem from what I've read - they pay more than their competitors. I dunno - out of my area of expertise.

I have sooooo many mixed feelings about this.

I am in management for a construction comapny - but I know that if it wasn't for unions we wouldn't have half the benefits we do. At the same time I must cuss out the union at least once a week - because they make my life at work harder and usually for no good reason.

I just hope it all gets worked out and everyone keeps their job and I get to use my Delta miles ;-)

Yes, I do hope that everyone keeps his/her job. My husband's theory is that Atlanta needs a major carrier, so some company will have to step in and fill the gap if Delta goes under. That would probably mean that Delta's upper-level management would be replaced by the upper-level management of the new company, but the lower-level employees like my brother (ramp workers, ticket agents, gate agents, etc.) will still be needed no matter what airline is there. So he thinks my brother will be okay. Of course, all of the Delta stock he has for his retirement and his kids' (12-year old twins and a 15-year-old) college tuition will be worthless.:sosad:

I hear ya on the miles. Since we built our house in Seagrove, we've gone there to vacation instead of taking frequent vacations to Europe and Asia as we did in the past. Since my husband is way over a Two-Million Miler on Delta, we have a boatload of miles. If we lost those miles, I'd be major ticked.:pissed: We're thinking about a European trip this summer while our house is rented and unaccessible to us.

Well, United has survived bankruptcy by cutting pay and benefits, etc. It worked. I don't think Delta will ever go under.

I don't know, wouldn't count on it. They've cut wages so much already and I don't think the employees are gonna continue to take it. Yes they're kinda between a rock and a hard place but when people work 20 years towards a promised retirement and then are threatened with having it taken away, they need to walk before the courts do allow it to be taken away. Its a boatload of money. A friend of mine will lose $500K retirement, if they do, so he's faced with walking and getting it or sticking with Delta and potentially losing it.

Personally, I think every pilot is overpaid EXCEPT THE ONE THAT'S FLYING MY PLANE  If Delta survives the veterans will probably leave to get their money and then a bunch of new pilots will take their place, work for the lower pay which is probably what Delta wants  . Give me experience any day!

The Continental flights into VPS are my first choice, too. And you can use your Delta miles for them because they are partners. Continental has much more leg room, better service, and far better connections. I especially like going through Houston Airport, as opposed to Dallas/Ft. Worth, since the latter seems to have such awful weather so much of the time. The only downside of flying Continental is that it is much more difficult to get upgrades. This is pretty much a universal situation these days, however.
