Dick Clark
, the music industry maverick, longtime TV host and powerhouse producer who changed the way we listened to pop music with "American Bandstand," and whose trademark "Rockin' Eve" became a fixture of New Year's celebrations, died today at the age of 82.

Clark's agent Paul Shefrin said in statement that the veteran host died this morning following a "massive heart attack."

American Bandstand, those were the best days.We would hurry home from school every afternoon to watch, then next day at school we would discuss who wore what, who danced with whom.I can't think of any thing today to compare.

Yes, if you think about it, American Bandstand, in addition to being entertaining, kept us well informed, and thus, we were all able to be a little more hip and cool. Thanks to Dick Clark.

Bandstand was such a big deal at the time, it spawned a lot of smaller imitators. Our local TV station had a similar show.
