Why would more roofers come here? No storms, damage repaired, but west of us is still gone in MS and LU.
Then that would be incorrect.
I think the maids still skew Eastern European or seasonal Jamaicans. The Texicans are definitely becoming big players in the landscaping biz though. And they seem to be settling into the area. I'm seeing a lot more families, and a number of new small businesses catering to them. These days, we joke about Sundays at Destin Target being mercado day.
And even though residental construction projects have slowed down, there are a couple of big ongoing infrastructure/business/commercial projects in the area, and no one's being particularly fussy about checking employment elgibility.
Odds are that the new Bay County airport is going to be built, in significant part, by people who aren't really supposed to be here. There have already been multiple cases of illegals doing contract work at Tyndall.

...and if you look at the arrest reports for Walton County, you will typically see at least a couple ticketed for tampering with Gov't issued documents, and failure to have a license. (usually Mexican names).
