In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, supposedly took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death.

That is NOT art!!!!

And if it is, I should be able to do a similar piece featuring ol' Guillermo w/ no consequences! :D

OMG! This is horrid. SJ, I wish you had a warned a body there were pictures. What about cruelty to animals? Isn't that against the law? How is this art? Is there something to be done to stop this?

I would pay good money to see Guillermo Vargas Habacuc tied to a rope and starved.

Wouldn't it be great if all the visitors to the next "showing" bring the dog some food, groom it and nurse it back to health so it would be strong enough to bite Guillermo in the arse?---Now THAT'S art!

Now this is a fund I will donate to. I think we should set it up.

I'd throw in my last dime to the fund:angry:

You and me both. This actually made me sick at my stomach.

singing chicken, I searched snopes.com after I saw the story, but I couldn't find anything on the story, from that site. I find it interesting that no one can find proof of the dog's supposed escape and proof that the dog was fed. Kind of hard to prove a negative. I googled the "artists" name, and found several repeats of the story I had. I also found a Wikipedia listing on the "artist," which stated:

"Internet forums and YouTube uploads that in 2007 Guillermo Vargas allegedly took a stray dog called Natividad from the streets of Managua, Nicaragua, and tied it to a short leash as an exhibit in an art gallery. It is reported that the dog was left to die with food just beyond its leashes length as patrons passed by in the gallery. Many images have appeared on the Internet showing a thin, emaciated dog tied to a line in a room full of standing people claiming to be photos of the dog. There are no indications in the photos of where or when or who took them.[2][3]. The director of the C?dice Gallery is reported as saying that the animal was fed regularly and was only tied up for 3 hours on one day before it escaped.[4]

Habacus has been selected to represent Costa Rica at the Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 and an online petition has been made with over 2 million signatures against this selection."

********

So if the dog was regularly fed prior to the exhibit, how the heck did it look so thin? That math just doesn't add up in my book.
