If this needs to be under the business, goods and services category, or under shopping instead, please move it.

Our Kenmore Ultrawash dishwasher has finally practically bit the dust. For about 3 or 4 months on and off the digital panel has been acting up and at times has been difficult to get started. And from what I've read this is a problem with many dishwasher brands as they all have the digital panels that run them now.

We have had ours for 7 years and from the reviews we have read on many, ours has lasted way longer than most. On ones we read about, one digital panel only lasted 14 months and on another 3 years. So we got by lucky.

We looked at two Bosch dishwashers yesterday at Lowes and came home and checked reviews on about 5 different brands, both Bosch got bad reviews on Amazon. One Whirlpool we saw got fairly good reviews, not sure about the Frigidaires we looked at.

We tried to replace the panel in the dishwasher and that was to no avail so we returned the part. Wondering if anyone can recommend anything to us? We tried all day yesterday to get the thing running and could not get it going until late last night, now it is making weird grinding noises.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm surprised to hear the bad Bosch reviews unless they've massively changed their product in recent years. We bought our entry level Bosch (about $600) in 2003 and have loved it- cleans very well, no repair issues, can handle delicate products that you wouldn't put into other types of washer, and very quiet.

I've had the same dishwasher for years...it's never failed me.
I fill my sink with soap and hot water, and let the dishes soak for 1/2 hour. I don't have to listen to the noise, pre-wash dishes, or re-wash dishes, and It costs less.

How much does that dishwasher job Pay?? Show me the money, then we'll talk! Money talks, BS walks

I'm with Sunspotbaby. the last two homes and apartment I have been in all had dishwashers that I never used. Of course, when we had all the kids still in the house, it made a lot more sense. We just don't have the same amount of dishes anymore.

Sounds like the right decision on the broken dishwasher is to put a bullet through its rinse cycle and kick it to the curb.

if you want a quiet, energy efficient dishwasher, there's bosch and then everyone else. we just replaced a maytag, and the noise level change is dramatic...the bosch does not use a heating element to dry and is mechanically simpler in that it does not employ a food grinder.

Got to agree with Bob.
I researched Consumer Reports online last year and chose a Bosch. It's GREAT, and I can't hear it unless I'm practically next to it. Has Sanitize feature at end of cycle that meets restaurant standards for cleanliness, has a removable top rack so very large/tall items can go in bottom, good energy efficiency, has crystal/china cycle, and lack of heating element means you are being a good greenie. I'm skeptical of Amazon reviews as anyone with an axe to grind, or even competitors, can post ratings, right?

Bosch

Our Bosch was very quiet but we had to replace a pump twice over 8 years. All in all, it was good. We just bought an ASKO and so far so good. Again, very quiet.

I have not heard of that brand. I don't like the sound of having to replace a pump twice over an 8 year period in the Bosch either. Most of the Bosch's we saw are very expensive. There were a few around $550, not sure if I saw any less than that on Lowe's site.

Can you tell me who carries the ASKO brand? Thanks.

Don't get a KitchenAid. Our old KitchenAid in GA is 19 years old, but the new one at the beach house only lasted from 2003-2006. Had to replace it. The only reason I bought another KitchenAid is so the appliances would all match. The new ones have plastic parts where the old ones used metal. Also the electronic control pad is flaky -- doesn't last as long as the old push buttons.
