I do not think it is pure homophobia in this instance. McCain is all over the place on this issue, and has been all over the place on this issue. At one point he cautioned that we should only proceed with overturning DADT if the Pentagon and our military leaders said that it was OK to do so??? (Note to McCain: Guess what--THEY DID!).

This true American hero is losing credibility in his final years very fast.

59% of current servicemen say it will have a negative impact and don't want it overturned. You gotta listen to the people it impacts not the bureaucrats. Shoving stuff down people's throats is a losing policy. They need to show them how the change won't affect them and get them on board.

This statement is a mirror image of many statements being made after WWII when ending military segregation was being discussed.....

Where did you get that statistic? The current report, that has been worked on for about a year, says that 70% of current servicemen say it will not have a negative impact. You and McCain seem to be on the same page: ignore the facts.

It's a new report:
Why ?Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell? Isn?t Over Yet - Newsweek
The report surveyed servicemen and women, finding some 70 percent of active-duty and reserve respondents had no opposition to letting gays serve, saying the effects would be positive, mixed, or nonexistent. As soon as those early details of the report were leaked to The Washington Post, advocates of letting gays serve saw a potential galvanizing effect for DADT repeal. ?The survey is one more sign that our military is ready to end this restrictive policy,? Sen. Mark Udall, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee who will push for repeal,

The reason the numbers are so much higher in the Army and Marine corps are because these soldiers are in tight living quarters and in a war zone where showers and confined grooming areas are very non discreet.I would imagine straight soldiers knowing who the gay person is in this situation and (he) got a strange look or approach could be harmful to the soldier(s)..I mean we might as well put straight men in the female barracks....it is the same type of example.

Not homophobic but I am telling it like it is.So blast me anyway and add to my negative rep. points.:sarc:

As a woman who has lived in "tight living quarters" with both lesbians and straight males, I fail to see why it's an issue.

Either you are an adult who can act like one, or you aren't. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with it.

It is why this issue is such a fire storm...don't shoot the messenger.
