uhmmmm...seriously. What do you think their feelings are? It's a sure fire way for union intimidation when a secret ballot is not allowed...

I find it amazing that this question, which I believe is a good one BTW, has been in the air since the 11th and there has not been one response from those so vociferously supporting unionization here in SoWal. On an unrelated subject, I also note there has been no mention of the Israeli attacks ongoing in the Gaza strip. Sometimes what does not appear in this forum is almost as interesting as what does.

I almost started a thread on it, then realized there was nothing new to be added to the discussion.

Although "what if they had made Isreal in a different place" has always been an interesting discussion topic. :wave:

I agree Andy, it is a good question. I did not respond because I believe singinchicken summed it up pretty well and I haven't spoken to any union members on the subject. On the Middle East situation I believe it is what it is, what it has always been, but hopefully not what it will always be. They hold the answer to their problems, not us.

Like you Andy the lack of participation by the union activists on this board is amazing to me.

When you talk about union's political influence, they deny it, while meeting with people to plan replacement strategies.

Want to talk about a living wage? No such discussion, members just need to be paid more.

What about card check? Total silence.

Terminating criminals, everyone deserves a second chance.

Sounds like they have a severe case of selective hearing/reading.:D

The original question is as follows;

Has anyone heard how the local unions feel about pending legislation that would eliminate secret balloting when setting up unions?

I understood the question to be about how local unions feel about the legislation, not others opinions. Since I'm not in a union or know anyone in a local union I couldn't answer it. If you want an opinion here it is.

Who denies it? Unions are made up of members of the voting puplic, sure they have political influence. They would be idiots not to use their influence just as every group does.
As for the card check issue, I know if I were a union member I would not like it one bit. I'm for the secret ballot. I'm also for the right of collective bargaining.
Employers don't have a history of fairness towards workers well being which is one reason unions took root in America in the first place. Companies who treat employees with respect, decent pay and benefits don't need to worry about a union in their place of business.
