I'm starting a new thread because this is tangential to the "dog friendly stuff?" thread. It's clear by the posts and the photos that we have some serious dog lovers on this board.

I want to thank a homeowner in Rosemary Beach whose name I do not know for getting me interested in standard poodles. He has two absolutely gorgeous, black standard poodles. From the moment I met them, I knew that this was what I wanted for my next pet.

Today I was talking to a friend here in GA about our standard poodle puppies (coincidentally we independently purchased them without knowing that the other was). Someone had asked her if she had seen the two black standards on 30-A. She hadn't, and she asked me if I had, knowing that we are homeowners on 30-A. It amazed her when I knew the poodles' names and breeder. So, whoever you are that owns those two dogs, your dogs are famous. Thanks again for introducing me to them!

It's funny how a person's dogs become known, even though their owners sometimes aren't. Perhaps the standard poodle owners might see your thank you.
My grandmother had nothing but black poodles her entire life, though some were regular, some standard. I only knew her last one, but what a fine, smart dog he was.

I cut and pasted my posts from the other dog threads.

Our old guy Tucker (an English Mastiff) was 180. Tucker is the 10th one down. We lost him last year.

Now we have smaller mastiffs--our young male is a 140 pound runt, smaller than Rosie, who is 155. Elwood is still a pretty wild pup, but so was Rosie, who is now the dignified matriarch.

You know you have a BIG dog when...

You walk your dog and everyone knows him by name, but you have no idea who these people are.

Stopped at a light, all stare as car rocks because the dog is panting out window.

It takes 3 people to get your dog on the scale at the vets.

You're holding him straddled between your legs when the doorbell rings and you find yourself quickly transported straight to the front door.
(This happened to my younger son more than once.)

The pizza delivery people arrange to meet you at the end of the sidewalk.

You keep at least one colorcoded ?drool towel? in every room of your house.

You've learned to force a smile when asked "do you have a saddle for that thing?"

Also, thanks, Cil, for replying. Love your dog pix! BTW the mastiff at Seaside seemed extremely gentle, too.

Does anybody on this board have Cavalier King Charles Spaniels?

I LOVE these dogs! They are pretty much bulletproof and those eyes will melt you. When I was in high school, my boyfriend's aunt was a huge breeder- she had about 25 "show" quality dogs up at her "big house", and another dozen or so "extras" at the barns. We would sit down and be literally smothered with wagging tails and licks and wiggles. I was trying to talk my mom into a King Charles, then my brother got another lab puppy (they live next door to each other), so now she is busy babysitting for my "nephew", Swagger, who is about 5 months and FULL OF IT!!! LOTS of energy. And way too cute for his own good!
