Daylight Saving Time (United States) began Sunday, March 11, 2012,2:00am, and ended Sunday, November 4, 2012, 2:00am.
Except Arizona and Hawaii. Move your clocks ahead 1 hour in spring and back 1 hour in fall ("Spring forward, fall back").

Everyone is complaining but not me. I love to get that extra hour, wake up with sunlight shining and go to bed fairly early. So it works for me but not for everyone - been hearing complaints all day! Sorry ya'll!

When Daylight Saving Time hits in the spring is when you'll hear me groanin'.

The SWFD reminds us to change our batteries when we change our clocks!

Change Your Clocks, Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries

For 14 years, the South Walton Fire District (SWFD) has participated in the International Association of Fire Chiefs' campaign "Change your Clock -Change your Battery", reminding citizens to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks on Sunday, November 4, 2012.

SWFD is so committed to this belief that the Fire District will install and replace batteries in smoke detectors for South Walton residents who are senior citizens, disabled, or families in need, at no charge. Remember, the life of a smoke detector is 10 years. If your detector is 10 years old or older, it should be replaced.

Some alarming facts:

  • Every year, approximately 3,000 people lose their lives in home fires, and most of those deaths are among the elderly, the disabled, the low income, and the very young.
  • Home fires account for four of every five fire-related deaths and three of every four fire-related injuries.
  • Many of these deaths may have been prevented if a working smoke detector was in place.
  • More than 90% of homes in the U.S. have smoke detectors, but 1/3 of those are estimated to have dead or missing batteries.

Remember – please set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 4, 2012 a
t 2:00 a.m.!

For more information about smoke detectors, fire safety and developing a home escape plan, contact Fire Marshal Sanchez at the South Walton Fire District, 911 N. CR 393 Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459 at 850-267-1298 and visit our website at www.swfd.org

You must have never spent much time in Boston. OMG, the sun rises in the middle of the night by my standards, and then it gets dark right after I have had time to eat lunch. It's so depressing. I think SADD is the word.

No I haven't but would love to for a just a little while. Seems like they may not need to change their clocks Not like that here at all though as you know. Perfect weather with avg in low to mid 60s, occasional cold snaps and rain, beautiful and sunny most of the time, sunrise at 6am, sunset at 5 with plenty of dark time for good cozy movie watching, a fire or reading before bed at 9.

But, I know many would rather have extended daylight and I appreciate that too. But for me, I'm glad to finally get a good night's sleep!
