Looking for a place to eat your favorite authentic Tacos, Burritos, Tamales and the best pressed hot Cuban sandwiches? There's no need to look any further! It is here en Santa Rosa Beach, right next to the U.S. Post Office on U.S. Highway 98W. El Mercadito is a family-owned Convenience Store and Latin Deli with a luncheon counter in the back that serves a variety of tasty hot sub sandwiches for "eat in" or "take out." The convenience store has a great variety of cold drinks, snacks, spices, teas, salsas and processed foods from Central and South America. The environment is always friendly and festive with a touch of Latino. Although the luncheon counter is not a traditional "restaurant" kind of place, it is very similar to a typical latinamerican-style luncheon counter you would find South of the Border. For example, your food and drink is ordered and picked up at the counter prior to seating at a small table or counter. The service is speedy and you can expect to wait 5 minutes at most. This comes in handy when you want a hot, quick meal on the go! So, give El Mercadito a try and maybe you can brush up on your Spanish at the same time!

Thanks!
Everyone is welcome

Try the empanada

Very tasty empanadas-- sort of a meat turnover. If you get them to go, take them cold and heat at home in the oven. Much better for the crust than microwave!

I stopped in here last week when I was in the area. The grocery looked wonderful! I did not eat, but wondered how the Cuban Sandwiches were. Do you ever have black beans & rice to go with the sandwiches? I used to live in Ft Lauderdale, so I have had some really good Cuban food...it is my most favorite food in the world!
Of course, the key to a good Cuban is the bread, and second is the pork.

I'll stop in for lunch very soon!

I wish you had fried plantains, too :D

during the development of jambone i must have eaten next door at the mercadito 75 times! herman and paula are the sweetest nicest people and their staff is so gracious. i swear i haven't had a better tamale anywhere and love the beef tacos - they make a ridiculous sassy salsa to put over the top. they get cokes from mexican bottlers and it is made with cane juice - not high fructose corn syrup and it has a distinctly different and better taste - dryer. they have some wacky candy and cookies and - oh ya - they have giant portions of tres leches ready to go in the case... i could go on and on - if you haven't popped in on my friends next door - try to do so soon - you'll love it!

i am very proud to be their neighbor!
