The beginning of last week was pretty benign, but started getting a little intense and it didn't really matter 'cause I was going south for the Soiree. Quick trip, but on my way home today, just turning onto 331, one of my neighbors in Atlanta called:
Hey, what is the fire truck doing in front of your house?
Whah???
There's a fire truck in front of your house, pulling the hoses out.....
Whah?!!!!
You're not home? Oh, maybe they're at your neighbor's house, but I just drove by and they're at your house.
Go to my house now and get Sweet Pea and p***y out!
Phone is ringing off the hook at this point and I have spotty cell service on 331 and Hwy 20. Finally got my neighbor who is taking care of my animals and the house while I am galavanting and playing. She tells me the fire truck was screaming down the road so she just happened to step outside to see what was going on. (Gladys Kravitz of which I am truly grateful!) They stopped in front of my house and she ran over with the key (so, they wouldn't have to bust a window out).
No fire.
And, they were here for a while to make certain all was ok. I had to speak with the Fire Chief.....baby-sitter did not set the alarm this morning when she left so it was definitely the fire alarm as that is never turned off. My heart broke thinking about how that hurt Sweet Peas' ears.
They couldn't find Cowboy! Finally, he came running in and hid while I was on the phone with the Fire Chief. Evidently, Sweet Pea got some love from some firemen! I'm kinda jealous about that part.
I didn't calm down and I still had basically 4:45 hrs. to go.
One of the things I did years ago was create a call list. Risk Management 101. The alarm monitoring company even has one of my favorite restaurants on the list and they were called.....the owner left his busy Sunday Brunch and went to meet the fire truck arriving. Then, my worker called, "Leenie, what is wrong at jou casa?" Sniff, sniff, "I don't know!" He said, "Ok, I go look."
I called my first caller back and she said she had the firemen administer first aid to her. What? Did you get hurt at my house? Y'all! Stress a go-go! She fell down???? Still spotty cell service so I was getting every other word and trying to stay calm. She had one of those huge oaks smash down in one of the storms last week and for some reason today she was standing on a stump, fell and gashed her knee. She was on her way to get first aid when she saw the fire truck at my house. Strange, huh?
I am so thankful beyond words that there was no fire, my animals are ok and that I have such wonderful people in my life! Here and in SoWal!
Will be calling alarm co. in the morning.
I had never had the system serviced and for some reason the fall of 2006 decided I should probably do that. All fine. Christmas Eve, 2006 at 5AM, the fire alarm went off! I ran to check the tree as I leave the lights on all night. No fire!
Alarm system takes over the phone lines so everytime 911 dispatch tried to reach me or the monitoring company tried to reach me, the alarm took over the call. AARGH! Y'all this alarm went off every
15 minutes! And, it was Christmas Eve, which was also a Sat. I was on the phone with the monitoring co. all day trying to get it resolved. I was coming out of my skin! Couldn't stay in my own house! I was leaving town on vacation and they suggested that since they couldn't get there on Christmas Eve that I should disconnect the wiring! My response? "OK! And, if something happens while I am away, I will sue you because that was the stupidest thing I've ever heard!"
They finally got someone out. I had one hour to enjoy that day!
Maybe I need a new system. I am worn out physically from so much funn this weekend and emotionally because that was a stressful five hour drive, even though I was assured all was fine.
Am having a glass of wine and all I have to decide now is whether to take a soak inside or outside tonight!
Cheers, Y'all!! ;-)
