Too far from the beach (Chicago 'Burbs)
I ride an exercycle (I got the kind with moving arms so I feel like I'm getting a more thorough workout.) I ride it for 30-45 minutes a day - have it in a spare room with a TV so I don't get bored. I'm a real news junkie so I usually ride it when the 10PM news is on and then I'm certain to get at least 30 minutes in! With small kids, I don't think it's practical for me to join a health club (though I will admit to recently signing up for the Discovery Health Channel National Body Challenge just to get the free 2 month pass to Bally's - there's one just about 2 miles from here so I thought I'd test it out and see if I can somehow squeeze it in to my schedule.)

I also try to exercize every day, just to keep myself in a routine, even though I read you should give yourself a break at least one day a week. I'm also inclined to think I would be better off working out earlier in the day, but it's just easier for me after the kids are in bed (hubby works nights, so I rarely have a minute to myself until the kids are sleeping.)

I need motivation. What do y'all do for exercise, and how often? When do you do it? I hate the gym- feel like a hamster on those treadmills, EFX's, etc. I do like Pilates, but the first couple weeks back at it is hard.
Ugh, I hear you, jdarg. I am the world's most unmotivated exerciser, and it shows! I still think walking is the best thing to do--Mr. Pod and I are determined to start hitting the pavement again!

Whenever I don't want to exercise I just TRY to remember how good it feels to be done. Put on the ipod and tune everything out. I use running as my therapy since I live in a house with crazies.
Whitey, I think I need to print out your reply as a reminder!
I agree with all of it, and I'm living some of it! :lolabove:

I LOVE walking- but now that Kate is out of the baby jogger, it is hard to find an hour to hit the pavement. And then she wants to come with me, but I don't get very far with a 4 year old! I have tried walking at 5 AM (horrible in the winter), after bedtime (too late at my house). The gym is out- doesn't fit in the schedule. Bdarg can go on his way to work though.

I'll probably start getting up at 5 and get the Pilates done before the kids get moving and making demands on me :rotfl: ! It's the only way I have ever really toned up, and most of the movements can be adapted to old lady ailments like stiff shoulders and bad backs. I'm sure getting out the shovel and repairing the holes in my backyard will be good exercise too!

I kept trying to watch CNN and the Weather Channel while EFX'ing- it would make me seasick trying to read the ticker headlines!

Same here.....I ride in the early morning at least 25 minutes everyday
it gets me going and ready to face the day...plus I sleep much better at night!
