The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, a federal government survey of tobacco, alcohol and illegal drug use, finds a significant rise in marijuana use among Americans nearing retirement as compared to ten years ago.

New York City police officers attempted to subdue an emotionally disturbed man by firing three shots at him. All three bullets missed their target but one struck an innocent woman in the knee and grazed another woman’s buttocks. The man, who turned out to be unarmed, was eventually brought town by a Taser. The two police officers involved in this incident received significant firearms training when they were recruits and they must pass a semi-annual test to demonstrate that they remain skilled marksmen. And yet even they missed their target and struck innocents.

Similarly, nine bystanders were injured by police bullets during a shootout between police and an armed gunman last year.

If trained officers cannot be relied upon not to strike bystanders, Wayne LaPierre’s statement “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” would likely result in even more innocents being fired upon.

Like nothing could possibly go wrong. Some don't consider the scenario of taking out the good guy with a surprise attack, getting his gun, and going on a killing spree. That tells me if you're carrying, you have a responsibility to mindful of the fact that you are carrying every milisecond. You can't be thinking of anything else. Better not be listening to your ipod or playing with your cell phone. Better not relax. If that's the way you want to live that's your business, and if you're carrying, it's your duty.

Republican Reps. Mike Coffman, Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton joined the rest of their state’s delegation in asking Obama to send emergency funds to Colorado, reported Think Progress.
Those same four Republicans voted against the Sandy relief package in January, and Lamborn voted against a smaller billion relief package less than two weeks later.
All three of Colorado’s Democratic representatives voted for each of the Sandy relief packages.
