OL...we must always post together...no one will know who is who....LOL...I have the same problem with BR and TFT:D

I rarely go to theaters because they give me claustrophobia, and I prefer watching movies in the comfort of my own home. So ?new movies for 2006? for me means ?new DVD releases.?

My favorite so far is Walk the Line. Witherspoon and Phoenix definitely deserved Oscar nominations for the movie, and I?m happy that she got best actress. The acting was good, I enjoyed the story line, and the music is so good that my daughter bought the soundtrack (and she mostly listens to hip-hop).

We rarely go to the movie theaters either - mainly because they are horribly filthy & gross!
I liked Walk the Line too, but I'm starting to compare all these biographies to the best (imo) and that's Coal Miner's Daughter.

Right off hand - - Requiem for a Dream
and I still like Mulholland Drive a lot.
Also liked "The Believer" (pretty intense)
"Bully"
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
These aren't necessarily my all time favorites, but they're good and unusual.

Johnrudy...did you reallylike Requiem for a Dream? I tried to watch, and couldn't do it. I was just so disturbing to me. Movies like this usually don't bother me, but this one really did.

Please explain the 'tar????? Who in the world is it?

My List:

Walk The Line
Crash
Elizabethtown
House of Sand and Fog (very disturbing also)

Yes, I REALLY liked it (albeit, not an "enjoyable" movie) a lot. But then again, I've always liked movies that are very intense &/or disturbing (not horror tho). My husband can't watch some of them. I guess I can relate in some way to some of them. Some are just thought provoking. I liked the House of Sand and Fog, too. My 15 y.o. son saw it at a friend's and he said he liked it too. Mr. Johnrudy didn't - too difficult I think.

The 'tar is Jerri Blank (aka Amy Sedaris) from "Strangers with Candy" Very funny independent comedy. Slightly off-color, not PC at all. Kurt posted a pic of her earlier in this thread! lol.

Agreed.
I liked Walk the Line, but it just sort of felt like a really good MTV video to me.
Coal Miner's Daughter really told a story.

A movie I just saw recently that really utilized Phoenix's considerable acting skills is Clay Pigeons. Vince Vaughn is also in this movie, a sort of dark comedy thriller.

I have Strangers With Candy (season 1 and 2) in my Netflix queue.
I adore David Sedaris, and he mentions his sister a lot--she sounds as funny as he is.

I've seen Clay Pigeons several times. Loved both Joaquin and Vince in that. And if you like David Sedaris, you'll like "Jerri Blank." Just don't say that I didn't warn you of the "crass factor!" And Steven Colbert is classic!!

I think Amy Sedaris is hilarious!! I am also a "Strangers with Candy Fan". I saw an interview one time where she talked about having to contort her mouth to play Jerri. She said it was pretty painful. I love David Sedaris, too. "Dress your Family in Cordaroy and Denim" is one of my favorite books.

Ever watch Mr. Show with David Cross? It was on HBO a few years ago. I think they have the seaons on DVD. Also a gem! :clap_1:
