Miss Kitty, I'll always be nice to you.

Chickpea, nice dodge. I knew you wouldn't answer the simple question.

Mango, I completely agree on Hitchens (I wouldn't put him as far out as Moore, but that's splitting hairs). However, the stuff he wrote about her hypocrisy, the company she kept and the quality and impact of her work forces one to give pause when others are lionizing her. He didn't print a book of lies.

6th Gen, you completely missed my point. I was not debating any authenticity of the book, although he has no real footnotes, and one can debate any criticism to death, but in the spirit of peace on this thread, I will never go there with you on this topic.

But if there are people in this world who can find fault with someone whose only purpose was to spread goodwill and peace, it makes one wonder how can we ever achieve any form of peace in more important matters like achieving peace in war?

Did Mother Teresa say that divorce was good for Diana at the same time she was advocating keeping it illegal in Ireland? Did she coddle dictators, specifically the oppressive Duvalier family in Haiti? Did she disclose where the millions and millions of dollars went? Was she treated in her own convent when she was ill or was she treated in California?

Someone (and I have forgotten who and am too lazy right now to look it up  ) said that one day we will prepare for war and no-one will show up! Idealistic and unlikely, but what a premise!

Now, we can sit back and watch this administration donate, give, award (chose your term) massive US military arsenal to Egypt and Saudi Arabia in order to secure their pledge to support Iraq in its current disfunctional state and be an ally to the US in their attempt to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions....... oh the irony........

O' GREAT SPIRIT

help me always
to speak the truth quietly,
to listen with an open mind
when others speak,
and to remember the peace
that may be found in silence.

"The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.
-- Hyman G. Rickover "

This quote doesn't belong here. This quote refers to training for war as if you are in war, so that when you are, you will be tough enough! It is a fighters quote.
Anyway, peace to all of you who seek it. To the non combat people who want war.... sign up and leave the kids alone!!!!!!!
