I love, love, love this movie! And it don't get more "small town" than a population of 81 people! :D

I'm a big Ethan Embry fan...

Not movies, but books about a small town that will make you want to live there: Fannie Flagg's books about Elmwood Springs, Missouri:

Welcome to the World, Baby Girl
Standing in the Rainbow
Can't Wait to Get to Heaven

The good hearted always win, the bad guys always lose, and the heroines can always bake a great cake. Whenever I think the world is evil, I re-read one of these.

May I add the Jan Karon series of novels set in Mitford, NC? And for humor, the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross, set in Abbotsville, NC. Evidently, North Carolina is fertile ground for fictional towns.

Kurt and Minnie, you nailed my favorites.

Minnie, who is that series by? I'm always looking for new authors.

Joan A. Medlicott
Grace Singleton, Hannah Parrish, and Amelia Declose, described as women "of a certain age," were finding life a little listless in the Pennsylvania boardinghouse where they lived. When one of them inherited a run-down farmhouse in Covington, N.C., the three women jumped at the chance for change and adventure. In each of the novels the women explore the lively town of Covington while they battle illness, welcome their children and other visitors, and meet the challenges of caring for a rambling old house. Covington is a fictional town in the North Carolina mountains, not far from Mars Hill.
