So do I DD. At the first tingle of one, Abreva works well - expensive but I usually get good results. From a reliable source, I was told that when an actor gets one, they keep a wet tea bag on the blister for as long as possilbe. Messy - yes, but something about the acid draws the blister out. My boyfriend swears by Lysine. He takes is all the time and never gets one anymore, but I take it just when I have a breakout and it seems to work.

I'm sorry for you because they are awful!

DD - I am probably going to wake up with one tomorrow just because I saw this thread and responded. those mothereffers are the WORST - yes, I've tried everything. usually I can keep it very minimal, but its still quite painful. and sometimes no matter what you do its going to go full out massive head wound Harry kind of blister. I don't get these often anymore for some reason - but once every few years - omc - call 911.

I thought I had Abreva. No. Went to get some. $17.99:yikes:Holy crap on a cracker! I found a CVS brand one time application and got that. Then, I got some good old Campho phenique just for good measure. Don't know how much worse it would have been if not for the CVS crap, but it does seem better today. I did apply the CP last night too though. I'll let y'all know if my face rots off.

baby jesus bless it.

I remember there used to be one medication for fever blisters at drugstores you had to ask for - it was kept behind the counter for some reason. not sure if its still available, and do not remember the name.

I have abreva and its not any better (for me) than other stuff I have tried over the years. the best treatment I've used is Zilactin - I keep the gel and the lip balm available at all times.

So sorry to hear about your malady, DD. Are you stressed? Is someone around you acting particularly bad? You just never know when those nasty fever blisters will pop up. Crazy how they hurt. Have you tried mupirocin? Prescription and not cheap, but works pretty well on skin issues. Ask your doctor.

Sorry to hear this, Y'all! I don't get them, but a friend gets them and it comes back in the same place whenever there is a trauma, stress, too much sun, etc.

Happy Healing!!

bURT'S BEE RES- Q ointment when one starts and Burt's Bee chap stick when I am out in the wind. For those who get fever blisters often, always throw the tooth brush away that you were using at the onset of the fever blister.
