Artists from around the globe to compete for $10,000 in prizes
Alys Beach, in conjunction with VisitSouth Walton, invites artists from around the globe to submitoriginal digital artwork for the Fifth Annual Digital GraffitiFestival at Alys Beach, a one of a kind juried venue for projectedart. Artists will compete for $10,000 in prize money, awarded in fivecategories. All work selected for the 2012 festival will be eligiblefor the awards, to be held on June 8[SUP]-[/SUP]9[SUP]th[/SUP].
Alys Beach opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to ground breaking international artists who literally transform the entire resort town into a living work of art. The annual festival allows digital artists to explore how their fluid forms intersect with technology and wrap the architecture of Alys Beachto createentirely new art forms.
“Digital Graffiti, over a short period of time, has become irrevocably linked to Alys Beach,” says Town Architect Marieanne Khoury-Vogt. “Watching our beautiful, stark, white washed walls and roofs become completely transformed by the colorful and evocative swirling piecesof digital art is truly an inspiring experience. The projected vivid images that mold and melt against the backdrop of our sculptural architecture is fascinating to observe. One can meander through thepaths and parks of our town and contemplate all of the differentpieces of digital graffiti, at times set to music, and at times powerfully silent.”
Anadditional evening at this year's festival includes an open air Salon, where artists are available to discuss their work with guests.During the festival weekend, various art workshops, hosted by Alys Beachin conjunction with the Cultural Arts Alliance, are available for all to attend.
FloridaTravel and Life lists Digital Graffiti Festival in their January/February 2012 issue as one of the must-not miss "52 Amazing Weekends" for 2012.
