A fun atmosphere and good food is the Ocean Club..........live music from the 70's starting at around 8pm. It's a little off 30-A being located at Topsail Resort, a few miles west of the Donut Hole. BTW, has anyone tried Commanders Palace yet ??
We had some wonderful nibbles at the bar in Commanders back in February. Disclosure: the house comped everyone in the bar with a bread pudding souffle; also, we had met Chef Tom Finch the night before at La Botana, and we were comped some additional food.
Turtle Soup
Delicious.
DIRTY DUCK AND FOIE GRAS SLIDERS: Chicory coffee braised duck debris, pickled mirlitons and foie gras mustard with sweet potato chips
Loved these too, despite the coffee flavor (I despise coffee).
Creole Bread Pudding Souffl? Topped with Bourbon Sauce
The signature dish, done to perfection. We ate two of these.
SHRIMP & TASSO CORNDOGS : Five pepper jelly, pickled okra, chicory greens and Crystal hot sauce beurre blanc
This was the only thing we ate that wasn't flawless - to my palate, the shrimp wasn't pristine. But the other flavors and textures were wonderful.
Perfect combination of textures and flavors, and pristine oysters.
I couldn't remember exactly what kind of cake this was - but the Bruleed Bananas were exquisite and the cake and sauce delicious. We were all a little distracted by Top Chef, the first half of the Season 5 Finale from New Orleans, which was playing on one of the bar's television sets.
Overall - recommended. Check out the happy hour if you don't want to commit fine dining bucks without trying a little first.
