Right here!
Ever wondered if you'd be happier in sunny Florida or snow-covered Minnesota? New research on state-level happiness could answer that question.

Florida and two other sunshine states made it to the Top 5, while Minnesota doesn't show up until number 26 on the list of happiest states. In addition to rating the smile factor of U.S. states, the research also proved for the first time that a person's self-reported happiness matches up with objective measures of well-being.

The happiest states:

1. Louisiana
2. Hawaii
3. Florida
4. Tennessee
5. Arizona
6. Mississippi
7. Montana
8. South Carolina
9. Alabama
10. Maine

I hate to inject politics into this, but would be interesting to see a "red state" / "blue state" map of happiness. There seems to be some correlation, at least at the top and bottom of the list. Lots of questions this data can't answer, but could keep some psychologists busy for awhile.

Louisiana happiest? LOL - being a LA gal I find that surprising! Not that LA isn't great in many ways, I am just surprised that's all. Funny as it is dead last as far as health goes.

Maybe eating all that jambalaya and crawfish pie makes for unhealthy but HAPPY people!

Made myself hungry!

Also, the study said LA was surveyed pre-Katrina. Wonder if that tragedy would have played a part in the rating, I think so. I thought is was interesting that 1/2 of the states were Southern states. I KNOW I grew up with some of the nicest, sweetest and happiest people in AL.

...If the survey was "pre-Katrina," that means it was during a time when many, many "happy" Floridians were blissfully unaware (or chose to ignore) the "Imminent Economic Meltdown."

Does faith make you happy? - Faith & Reason CDC released a four-year, 1.3 million-person study on happiness: Apparently the happiest Americans are in Louisiana, while the Empire State (N.Y.) is leaving people least satisfied.

The CDC speculates this has to do with things like sunshine hours, congestion, cost of living, air quality and availability of public land. Not on the list of criteria: religiosity.
