Since there was some discourse on American Indians, I thought I would point out that HBO films will be airing an adaption of "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" this Sunday the 27th. The Book was first published in 1970. The film stars Aiden Quinn, Adam Beach, Anna Paquin, and August Schellenberg as Sitting Bull.

It is difficult to overstate the impact of the book. As one reviewer put it:
"In the last decade or so, after almost a century of saloon art and horse operas that romanticized Indian fighters and white settlers, Americans have been developing a reasonably acute sense of the injustices and humiliations suffered by the Indians. But the details of how the West was won are not really part of the American consciousness ... "... Dee Brown, Western historian and head librarian at the University of Illinois, now attempts to balance the account. With the zeal of an IRS investigator, he audits U.S. history's forgotten set of books. Compiled from old but rarely exploited sources plus a fresh look at dusty Government documents. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee tallies the broken promises and treaties, the provocations, massacres. discriminatory policies and condescending diplomacy."[1] One strength of the book is its strong documentation to original sources.[2] Its message may not have been a welcome one, but it is backed with sources and references. It remained on best seller lists for over a year, and was still in print 35 years later.

Dwells, I initially made a comment about your signature line, basically that is devoid of any basic understanding of economics. I said that the comment was banal and asinine. You responded that you did not have to justify it to me. While you are perfectly entitled to ignore me, I think it is dumb to use something that you cannot defend as your signature. As for being uncivilized, responding with "BITE ME" when I tried to create a little discussion is uncivilized. And you and many others want to hit me (above), so if you like I can add that to my list of grievances. I know all of you think I'm an a**hole, and I can live with that, but I've tried to create a little discussion. I have posted on a very left leaning site, because it keeps my mind active, my smoke break, if you will, when I need a minute at work. It makes me defend what I believe, and opens me up to different perspectives.

Actually your comments are seldom openminded. I do watch Fox news at times for the same reason you gave above. However when I disagree or find them uncivilized, banal and asinine I change the channel. I know they lean to the right even though they proclaim fair and balanced as their motto. So I don't stay and try to convert them or issue personal attacks electronically. I move on. Perhaps it would be best to do the same if you are failing to get your point across, please take your friend with you.

Again, Fox News is usually pretty fair and balanced. They lean a little right, but not as far as CNN, NYT, and 95% of national media leans to the left. Hume is excellent. Hannity, O'Reilly, the morning show, etc. are not news, and they are far more populist than they are conservative or traditionally liberal. It's like someone on the right complaining that Olbermann is biased. That's his job.

As for converting folks, or firing personal attacks, take a look to see who usually fires the first shot. I have gotten my point across several times, even if you don't realize or accept it. Your attempt to silence those that don't agree with you is not surprising. It is frustrating when you are continually proven wrong, so it is easier to ask folks who disagree to leave.

I said I wasn't going to respond, but here I go again.

Let me try to defend my signature line. It is simply about GREED, pure and simple.

I don't call it uncivilized, I call it being a B***, which at that moment I felt like being, because I was mad.

And you and many others want to hit me (above), so if you like I can add that to my list of grievances.

If we grieve you so, why may I ask are you still posting on this site?

I am all about defending what you belive in. However, there are nicer way's to get your point across, just a thought.

Grievance is a complaint, or cause for complaint. Grieving is holding sorrow, or being mornful. Didn't know I had to spell it out.

As for greed, here is the definition - "An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth". By definition, someone that is greedy is always wanting more, so it is not in their interest to destroy their source of livelihood. It is in their interest to replace it, to accumulate more material wealth.
