I like Mike's Diner and get fried okra every time. Believe me, if you like Mike's, you will love Delta Kitchen's.

GTTBM, That brings back memories. I remember when my grandmother would stay with us to babysit, during the summers. That lady could cook! Too frequently, my brother and I would wait as she cooked, and when she pulled them out of the pan or fryer, we would let the okra cool for maybe thirty seconds and eat, even though it usually burned our mouths. We'd be finished with that batch before she'd dip out the next. I love me some fried okra and my grandmas.

now, we're big fried okrey people around here, the kind rolled in cornmeal and fried in bacon grease. and I hate to say this, but Delta's fried okrey was not nearly good enough for me. it was big and heavy, not small and crispy. in other words, it seemed to come out of the frozen bag. sorry, but that was my take. not that it was bad, but it wasn't mom's.

at daddy's we order a basket for an appetizer. pretty close to mom's. the closest I've ever had in a restaurant.

never tried Mike's Diner - will have to look it up. we're discovering more and more over in PCB as far as good food. I need to tell ya'll about the Pasta Grill... another thread.

Wench lunch!

FBB and I forced Miss Kitty to go with us one day. She had business to attend to in pcb. So we "Drove Miss Kitty" and made her got to Mike's with us. I think she liked us. Score one for us. We have a personal goal to drag her to every dive we know. :rotfl:

Tootsie, Delta's is better than Mikes, on all accounts. However, I don't think Delta uses cornmeal in their breading, like grandma used to make it. Also, my grandma used to slice it thinner and over fry it slightly to get it crisp. I don't think a restaurant in NW FL makes it like that. Delta Kitchen's is definitely not grandma's, but it is freshly breaded and cooked.

I had an Kitty Special, tonight, at home! Delicious, but has nothing to do with Fried Okra.

That's how my grandmother made it--thin and crispy--all cornmeal. Oh my gosh, I'm gonna dream about it tonight.

yeah baybay! omg, there are too many places we gotta go and have some lunch. but we're not doing so good on the mexican places to go these days.

I drove through pier park yesterday and there are so many dam eateries in there you won't believe it. most don't really do anything for me. but a few we must try.

that place is missing one important element, imo. shade. it is going to be absolutely broiling hot this summer. it's all sidewalk and no overhang or trees or anything to protect from the sun. people were eating outside here and there at various restaurants, in the sunshine - fine for march. can't imagine what they are going to do after May. how about some awnings at least!??!!

fbb and gttbm turned me on to Mike's. I LOVED the okra there, so it looks like they will have to take me to Delta Kitchen now so we can compare!

...if you can recreate that salad and will share it with me, I might paint YOU a picture! Did you get your arugula in DFS?
