First entry of CV3000 blog, leaning heavily towards Okaloosa County.

Coastal Vision 3000

THE Beach is 190 miles of sugar white sands that stretch along Northwest Florida?s Gulf Coast. Countless beach towns strung like freshwater pearls create THE Beach. Each town has its own vibe, from eclectic to upscale, and everything in between. Getting to THE Beach is quite convenient, whether driving or flying. Regional airports in Pensacola, Panama City and Okaloosa County Airport in Fort Walton Beach offer direct flights from several US cities. Private planes utilize Destin Airport in the heart of Destin, or Bob Sikes Airport north of Crestview.

Seems like the length of the Emerald Coast is shrinking. Or, are we still the Emerald Coast, or now The Northwest Florida Beaches?

There was a rift in CV3000 when the organization started pushing Southwest to the new airport, Northwest Florida Beaches International, instead of to the existing airport in Fort Walton Beach, Northwest Florida Regional Airport.

No surprise, a rift, but what did they expect?

To the extent that CV3000 was mostly about attracting Southwest to serve our area, only one of the airports was going to succeed ... so the whole idea of teaming up in the first place sounded happy & positive, but seemed naive, if not completely misdirected.

The heavy participation in CV3000 by the Destin/Okaloosa delegation was, I guess, a surprising gamble in a game that St. Joe was not going to lose.

I thought Coastal Vision 3000/THE beach was laying low or disbanding because of questionable finances and lack of sunshine? :dunno:

I still don't understand what they do/have done besides have meetings, claim credit for established events, and spend tax dollars.
