I heard the sad announcement of his passing on the news this morning. He was one of my favorite Presidents - he will be missed.

Ford was the first president I remember, I was 6 when he was sworn in.

Sold an Olympus Stylus camera to Betty when I lived in Vail, secret service guy browsed while I showed Mrs. Ford how it worked.

My roomate in Vail grew up next door to the Ford's in Beaver Creek. He was once detained by secret service while skiing through the Ford's backyard to his house from the slopes. I guess a 15 year old all bundled up in ski clothing was enough of a threat.

Saw Ford himself quite a bit around Beaver Creek and Vail, but never got to actually meet him.

The Betty Ford Alpine Garden at Vail is a glorious tribute to the Fords. Never saw them in Vail but I certainly enjoyed that garden quite a bit.
I listened to some of Mr. Ford's 2004 interview on NPR yesterday. He spoke of his pardon of Nixon and how he did it in order to cease the Nixon Presidency, which was continuing, on his own desk, every day.
The man had common sense--and integrity.
