!!Nahhhhh, you've got grayt advice and lots of friends right there with you- a coma would be much too boring!!
Do the patch- it is a consistant supply of nicotine, so you don't have the highs and lows of nicotine addiction. The gum mimics your smoking pattern- you smoked when your body needed nicotine. Now you chew gum when you need nicotine, so you are in the same nicotine -providing pattern. So you need to change up the way your body is receiving it's fix, and to do so slowly and consistently through the patch is much easier to tolerate. Am I making any sense?
Some people may be able to quit using the Wellbutrin or Chantrix alone, but they are in the minority. When making such a huge change, why not give yourself every break you can? It is documented fact that nicotine replacement dramatically increases your chances of success. I sat through 3 months of a support group - we started out with 12 people. The first 2 to fall off the wagon did not do any nic replacement, and lasted 3 days. The next 3 "messed around" with their patches- cut them in half, skipped days to save money, etc. Poof! They were gone. The last gal sadly made it for awhile, but decided to skip the last box of patches (lowest dose)- even coming off a low dose of nicotine cold turkey was impossible.
Also- don't forget that we are not smoking the same tobacco that our parents and grandparents did. Remember all the people who could quit cold turkey? That was before additives.I remember how yummy tobacco smelled in a tobacco barn. Cigarettes don't smell like that anymore. The additives make it almost impossible to quit without some help.

Wow jdarg! You're good! Stay close 'cause you just may be dd's best support system.
dd, good luck and keep this thread alive for your support group.![]()
