Good gumbo?

During the Spring/Summer there have been Shrimp Boats parked at the Hwy331 bridge selling out of coolers. I've never tried them? Does anyone know anything about them?

Last I heard, the scenic corridor enforcement people ran them off. Didn't meet our scenic guidelines...

That's about right.....But they still allow the Bubba's in their beat up ole pick up and homemade camper park and fish along that stretch....

No harm was done to any of my fellow Bubba's in the construction of this statement.....;-)

Yet another change...enforcement of the system...that takes away who and what this area is all about.

Buying shrimp off the boat fresh is the best thing since sliced bread! I stop at least twice a week during season...another old favorite forced out!

They could park the boat on the north side of the bridge, because only the South side is considered a scenic corridor. The Cheri Anne, or what ever the name of that shrimp boat is parked up Lagrange Bayou. Someone told me that it belongs to the people who used to operate a restaurant in Freeport, on the south side of Hwy 20 -- The Corner Pocket or something like that. Judging by the two kids who I always saw selling the shrimp, I question if they were actually caught on that boat by those two teenagers, but they very well may be freshly caught.

I am aware of Shrimpers and Goatfeathers, and I, too, prefer Shrimpers, but I rarely make it down that far. The local Publix stores carry shrimp from Malaysia and Indonesia. Go figure. I know many local restaurants don't sell Gulf Shrimp, either. Glad to see Criolla's has Gulf Shrimp on their menu.

It's a bit further west than many here like to venture, but Dewey Destin's has local shrimp in season, and rather apologetically sells Mobile Bay shrimp when they can't get the really local beasties.

Parking on that stretch isn't against the law. However, Roadside vending without a license, on the scenic corridor is against the law.

No license is available to roadside vend anything on the Scenic Corridor. Even on private property. You must be at least 300 ft. off the S.C.
Roadside vending is much to trashy for the State of South Walton. Anyone that does it should be sent to prison and forced to make big blue "Welcome to the State of South Walton" signs.

I always heard the Cheri Anne bought shrimp at the market and sold it off the boat, and i didn't figure the teenage girl in the bathing suit had gone schwimping her dang self. Man, I gots a way with words, doesn't I

D and K, Blue Orleans, and Stinky's all have very good gumbo, and I am a gumbo junkie!
