I'll have to try the recipe Miss Kitty posted - though it sounds way complicated. Sometimes I feel as though I spend most of my life making tea!
Tea in the Shallows (fits a half-gallon Rubbermaid pitcher):
1 family-size Luzianne (NO SUBSTITUTES) tea bag
Water
four scoops of sugar (a little less than one cup)
Heat both in a 1-qt saucepan. No need to boil, but does need to be fairly hot. Wait for it to get good and dark. Meanwhile, scoop the sugar into the bottom of the pitcher. First, take the tea bag out and mash it with your wooden spoon against the side of the pitcher, then stir in the tea from the pot. Add cold water to top, stirring constantly.
We go through at least two pitchers of this each day. We probably shouldn't; could be why we look the way we do. It's shocking at times to use a clear pitcher and look at exactly how much sugar goes in before the tea does.

thru the years. I tried making the simple syrup route once and it tasted funny to me. I can't imagine why though? It was just sugar and water?
We have tea and not soda around here. Maybe parties or when camping or holiday cook outs but that's about it.
