Greg Mathews and Chris Officer are wearing out flip flops every day as they walk Florida beaches for Google Maps. They are carrying a bizarre backpack which has a big blue orb overhead.

How does one view the completed tour? I'd love to do a "moment in time" inventory of beach violations.

I think it will be online in the spring. You'll just go to Google maps and then zoom in to "street view" on the beach and you'll automatically be shown images from any beach in Florida.

I heard an NPR report about it today also.

I can only imagine what kind of crazy stuff these guys might be capturing. Screenshots from it wil be all over the net. The project seems like it could be a stroke of genius on Visit Florida's part.

I'm really surprised at the low cost figures they cite for this. This will be one of the cheapest and most cost effective advertisements for Florida I've ever seen. At those prices I wonder if they'll do some seasonal updates. The panhandle in July is one thing. It's completely different fall/winter/spring.

Yeah - I would at least look at results and go back and do reshoots where needed if it wasn't a nice day or there was a big fat family n the pic.
