I was on the kayak early July a couple of years ago, a red flag day with some 3-4 ft waves out on the second sand bar (and yes, I wore a lifejacket due to those conditions). Just as I transitioned from the trench between the two sandbars out to the second sandbar, I saw two large beings, probaby 8' or so, swimming along the bottom of the Gulf (it was probably about 8'-10' deep here). They had flat, shovel-type snouts as opposed to the beak-type snout of dolphins. So I decided to turn the kayak around and head back to shore, and just as I did, another of those waves came along and dumped me out into the Gulf, about 6' from the 12' kayak. I got back to the overturned kayak, paddle in hand, thinking I was going to have to push it back in to shore, but fortunately there was enough of a break in the waves that I was able to turn it over and get back in. Needless to say, several beachgoers had become spectators and asked me if I was okay when I returned to shore. Of course I told them what influenced my quick turnaround that led to the capsize incident.
