Thanks, Lucifer Sam.......

As far as I'm concerned, they are just districts in Santa Rosa Beach. If someone asks you what part of Santa Rosa Beach you live in you can say Gulf Place, Seaside, over by WalMart, whatever.

.... for using just plain common sense on this subject. That's all it takes to tell someone where you live in Santa Rosa Beach. And the name "Santa Rosa Beach" sounds like a cool beach town name. Also, regardless of the TDC cost( which is usually a whole another discussion) it appears that Gulf Place deserves to have their community listed just as much as any other of the communities already listed.

Why is it so expensive to add 2 words to advertising?

A quarter of a million is ridiculous!

Good question. I think it may have to do with all the printed materials - catalogs, brochures, stock print ads, etc. Also signs, website, etc. There is a ton of stuff out there. But if I were in charge, most of it would be allowed to live out its life and only new stuff would be changed. I don't think that's the way professionals do it though. And besides, Gulf Place expects to be added now, not in 3, 8, or 16 months or whatever. Everyone at the TDC, Gulf Place, and the meetings knew how much it would cost but they pushed ahead. Not saying it was wrong but everyone had their eyes open and it was public.

SOme things happen in plain sight and it's hard to complain after the fact. It's also hard for any merchant in Gulf Place to complain about the TDC. If your lobbying works for you can you complain about others' lobbying? WHat about other SoWal merchants - do they celebrate the change and congratulate their merchant community and TDC - or do they continue to complain about every single decision the TDC makes? Is Seaside or Rosemary Beach ticked off because that $250k could have gone to promoting them? Especially instead of their competitor at Gulf Place?

These are not incorporated towns by any means but recognized Beach communities within South Walton. Gulf Place is its own beach community, meets the definition and should have its name prominently listed for destination marketing purposes along with others along Scenic 30A. Also, this is a small town and people living within beach communities all along SoWal live together, work together and support one another. Support for towns and businesses by neighboring towns and businesses only makes for greater success for everyone. This is one of the great things about living in SoWal!
