More on negligent / incompetent gun owners (like those that leave guns in unlocked cars, or in this case, in your kids school backpack):

So, an elementary student brings a gun to school and it appears all is OK and the school board will handle? Seriously?

How did said gun (reported to be unloaded) "walk" into an elementary students backpack???

The only plausible explanation is that the gun was not properly secured. Regardless of who / whom put it in the pack, this should never happen.

Thank God there were no bullets available.

“At no time during this investigation did we believe there was a threat to the school or that an arrest was necessary,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson.

(I have to wonder, WHO this gun owner was and if they have friends in high places).

Kid is reported to be 7 years old!

News outlets are running this statement: The family was contacted and the Walton County School District will handle any punishment.

Is WCSO investigating or not? This is absolute negligence and it gives good gun owners a bad name. Hope this doesn't become a "Principal off the 331 Bridge Case"...

Here's what happens at Maude Saunders when your kid (probably not a connected family) brings a butter knife to school...

www.wjhg.com/content/news/Too-harsh-Student-suspended-for-butter-knife-at-lunch-451520233.html

"According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, no crime was committed and disciplinary actions were left to school administrators."

Butter Knife?

Handgun?

:dunno:

I actually know the mom of the little girl involved in this incident and they are really good people.

The little girl took the butter knife to school to impress a little boy and what she got was an impressive in school suspension and an angry mom and dad. Trust when I say it won't happen again with that little girl anytime soon, if ever.

The difference here being that carrying a butter knife doesn't require a permit and it's not against the law.

In the gun incident the parents should loose their gun permits and their guns!! If you are that irresponsible that your gun ends up in a 7 year olds back pack you should NOT have a gun or be able to own one!

Anyone know the stats on butter knives accidentally discharging? A pat of hard refrigerated butter could put your eye out.
