And God created the heavens and the earth and guns and gravy.

God and Guns. Another reason to avoid church. Never thought guns would be an issue inside of a sanctuary, concealed by people who may or may not be fit. In today's world, my first impression of someone who needs to carry a gun to church is that person is most probably mental. I'm not interested in finding out.

The NRA and ammosexual conservatives want to push guns into every corner of your existence, no matter how private or safe you may feel there. It's interesting they immediately claimed this latest shooting as either an assault on Christians or religious liberty, but didn't claim the Aurora Co shooting was an assault on film making or the Sandy Hook school shooting was an assault on education.

http://homicides.redeyechicago.com/ which do you see as a bigger problem? psycho on the loose or a community at war with itself.
I say easy access to guns is the biggest problem in both cases, but I'm not sure this guy is a psycho. He repeatedly expressed his desire to engage in a killing spree yet no one reported anything to the authorities. I guess that was just common everyday conversation among his crowd so nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Also, I fear homegrown gun nut rightwing patriots like this asshat whole lot more than I fear ISIS.

rightwing patriots are projecting a worldview where they look through a lens of personal responsibility and creating paranoid objects, and I think it would be fair to say leftwing antigun nuts worldview bends toward creating paranoid objects and victimhood. We live in a predominantly urban society that cannot easily grasp responsible gun ownership. Conversely, those that love easy access to guns, are hiding their heads in the sand if they don't think gun regulation is coming. There's got to be a common ground, or nothing will change. It's the whole problem with politics above the state level. I don't believe the NRA is any more corrupt than any other lobby. In my world you'd get one term in D.C. and no gun ownership for anyone incapable of demonstrating a minimum of gun proficiency. Right now you've got Jesse Jackson et al. carting out the entire Vegas style victimhood racism manifesto, and the rightwing asshats you describe are just displaying their own lack of capacity to think it through. This kid should have been identified in public school for mental health evaluation. In Florida he would have slipped through the same as South Carolina. It's beyond tragic.

I just think tthe NRA is dangerously misguided at the top but not necessarily corrupt. Their followers buy into their culture of ignorance. I don't see any reason for anyone, particularly the left, to create a dichotomy as to whether someone is mentally ill or racist. Why not both? In this case it looks like the perpetrator is a messed up druggie trying to establish an identity in a culture of hate. I can't imagine anyone involved in some of these hate groups being diagnosed as "mentally healthy". I happen to think profound willful ignorance, extreme denial, religious fanaticism, and anti-intellectualism are forms of mental illness. By that measure our country is one sick puppy.

If the manifesto attributed to him is actually his then that is all that is needed to prove his actions were the result of an ideology and not because he was demented, deranged or psychopathic. To say he needs a mental evaluation is to say just about every person preaching from a pulpit this morning also needs a mental evaluation because part of the ideology they are pushing is founded on misunderstanding, hate, and discrimination. There is no larger group of people claiming to be victims in this country than Christians.

You won't get an argument from me attesting to the mental stability of men of the cloth.
