the statue of lincoln should be moved 3800 yards east to the capitol where members of congress can contemplate it's daily presence....presidents day should be abolished, and this transcendent, giant of a man should be solely honored every year

I have mixed feelings about Lincoln. I could write some papers on that, which would be very controversial in themselves. He was a true politician, and used the Emancipation Proclamation (which is a work of great poetry, and written from the heart) as a political move to try and save the north in the War, after receiving so many blows of defeat in the many battles. More than 600,000 Americans died in the NOT-SO "Civil War," which wasn't even a civil war by definition. Could you imagine the outrage if today's President waged such a war in the USA? Talk about some stress, and the guy was already suffering from depression.

BTW, today is also Charles Darwin's birthday.

Lincoln was our greatest president and a man who is the personification of inspiration. Sometimes I wonder if he was not of this Earth. He was so ahead of his times.

I am absolutely serious !!! He was very ahead of his time and clearly an independent deep thinker. The Gettysburg Address, his 2nd inaugural, and the Emancipation Proclomation could only have been written by someone who was inspired by a " divine " guidance. He was certainly a man who marched to a different drummer. His life was the greatest of all Horatio Alger stories.
