I just got a PM from the Pillsbury Doughboy regarding the nature this thread, and all I have to say is that he is pissed. He find it all very personally degrading.

Hey, I am just the messanger here!

He does get a little pissy from time to time.

Natl. Donut Day??...Are you making this stuff up?.:D

.
Never.....

When : Always the first Friday in June
National Doughnut Day honors the Salvation Army "Lassies" of WWI. It is also used as a fund raiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army.
The original Salvation Army Doughnut was first served by Salvation Army in 1917. During WWI, Salvation Army "lassies" were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home cooked foods, and provided a moral boost to the troops. Often, the doughnuts were cooked in oil inside the of the metal helmet of an American soldier. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines. Lt. Colonel Helen Purviance is considered the Salvation Army's "first doughnut girl".

AL, that purple donut looks like one of the jellyfish from the other threads.

The only donut I will eat is fresh made, with cinnamon sugar or glazed .
I don't like any other kinds, especially with filling. There's just something about biting into something that oozes. You have your coconut issues, I have my donut issues.

:lolabove: Yes, I guess you could call me a donut snob.

I mean think about it. You have this dough that has been dunked in oil and has absorbed about a barrel of oil. Then they put powdered sugar or sprinkles in a attempt to make it look attractive. Really though, after you eat one, you either need a Neti Pot to get the powdered sugar unstuck from your nasal cavities, or some serious amounts of dental floss to get all the sprinkles out of your teeth. And, the ones with filling will always require a Tide Stick and a prayer it comes out of your blouse. You never know what direction that ooze will come shooting out of.

Don't even get me started on the digestion issues. It shouldn't be Donut Day, but Donut Week. Just sayin.

Thanks DD and I can't believe I missed national donut day! My favorite is honey dip - the doughy donuts (not cake donuts - never cake donuts) glazed with honey all the way around (not just on top).
