The question should be what are the banks that will thrive and prosper in the next cycle. These are the banks that have been thrown out with the bath water. I vote for JPM WFC BAC USB. I would avoid WB and all the bank stocks that are single digit midgets. The aforementioned have all gone up 30% plus in 2 days. The psychology on Wall St. will now flip to buy em on weakness. Next week BAC reports and they have already stated they will not cut the dividend. I suspect BAC will beat estimates and there will be another leg up in financials. :dunno:

Shelly I feel very confident, as well as much richer, that the lows of July 15 in JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and US Bancorp will be the lows for this cycle. Of course I could be wrong, I have been many times in the past, but sometimes you have to say WTF.

...I say it more times a day than you'd ever know.

As a matter of fact I said it--and out loud too --when I glanced at the price of imported cheese at Publix yesterday afternoon. And I said it again last night when I read that Kraft is going to raise the price of their cheese 25% (and Oreos too!)

There's a stock tip for you...KFT. ;-)

I own KFT, as well as General Mills ( GIS )

KFT is just off its 52 week low, if they can get away with pushing these price increases through, they'll be able to make a bit of money going forward.

I for one will NEVER(!) replace my Oreos with Hydrox (which Kelloggs is bringing back from the dead this summer).

I bought some Merck ( MRK ) today at 31.25. A great company cut in half on vytorin news again. I like the yield as well as their pipeline. One of the great blue chips that offers a good value. I like to buy a certain article of clothing in the winter and I think MRK is a silk TOPHAT !!

I'm with you, Shelly. Some things simply cannot be compromised.

I think with KFT the initial price increase may boost the stock, but if you push the price enough people will go with alternatives. Wouldn't a healthy mix of food stocks be the way to go since people just won't stop eating for some reason? :D

I wish I could buy stock in items, not companies. I would have a very diversified portfolio. Some of my top picks would be..

Publix Fried Chicken
Oreos
Snickers
Cheetos
Coca-cola
Outback Bloomin Onion
Waffle House hash browns
Chick-fil-a sandwiches
Sonny's ice tea

I grew up eating from the company store so most of my food staples are under the Phillip Morriss umbrella:

Clausen dill pickles
Oscar Mayer hot dogs, bologna, bacon
General Mills Cheerios
Kraft mac n cheese
Cool Whip
