"There's a laundromat I found in a small shopping center near the end of 30 and 98 going toward Destin."

That laundry mat is owned by the same people who owned the one on Main Street in Destin. The original owner could not get any help to keep it open on a normal schedule!

The one in Destin was moved recently to Commons Drive (behind Wal-Mart) and sold to a delightful couple from South Florida. There was talk that the South Walton one was going to close, but I am not sure what they decided to do. They are young and energetic, I hope they do well!

My housekeeper told me that there was one next to the Goodwill on 98, but then found out it had closed. I suppose that is the same one. We feel that the reason why there are not that many laundromats in the area is that 1) the cost of water, 2) electricity-you cant have your clientele sitting in steamy laundromats especially in Florida, and the fact that its usage will be mainly seasonal. Then to boot, the value of the land there now, and the rents will be horrific. My husband has been in the business for 20 years, and he can tell if an area will do well.

Welcome to SoWal. I'm the one who introduced you to your realtor on the beach. You're right about this site, it's a great info resource for what's happening in the area.

Sorry to hear about your condo. That's precisely why Sharon and I haven't considered renting (unless it was absolutely financially necessary).

By the way, had dinner at your realtor's house Saturday night and he said the market is absolutely dead right now. Two of his real estate associates recently took waitressing jobs to generate some cash. That's scary for flippers and speculators but for those of us in it for the long-term -- who love the area and are simply marking time until we make the move -- it shouldn't be a problem.

Again, welcome.

Back Home? Actually it's picking up a little. Combined Condos & Homes on 30A that went under contract:

1/06 - 13
2/06 - 14
3/06 - 25
4/06 so far - 8

BTW, do you have a new family member yet? :rotfl:
